Lovlish worked for the New York City Department of Education (NYC DOE), the largest public school system in the country, that supports over 1M students at 1,800+ school sites across the 5 boroughs. He started as the Business Analyst for the IT Service Desk, transitioned to a Program Manager for the Office of Assessment, transitioned again to a Program Manager for the Program Management Office, and left as the Data Governance Manager for the Office of Data Management. As the roles changed, the scope of work increased. As the Data Governance Manager, Lovlish was part of a team that was responsible for fulfilling federal, state, and city mandated reports, which had funding and legal implications for the NYC DOE. His role was to break silos, foster collaboration amongst competing verticals and offices, provide a support system, and document standards for efficiency and accuracy. To be successful, a DOE-wide enterprise solution with an agreed upon data strategy was introduced to the Chancellor’s Cabinet, and governance tools were stood up such a data steward directory, data dictionary, reporting inventory, and applications inventory. This enabled stakeholders and decision makers to quickly and easily find answers or resources they needed to complete critical work that required cross office/division/vertical support. Through his various roles, Lovlish built relationships with the Chief Information Officer, Chiefs of Staff and Chief Operating Officers. There was no challenge too complex or too large to tackle. From there, on the side, Lovlish was one of three co-leads of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Employee Resource Group (ERG). Another way to look at it was an affinity group for AAPI specific to the NYC DOE. In 2021, the country, especially NYC, was dealing with a lot of anti-Asian hate crimes and violence. Lovlish ended up working with the mayor’s office to put certain safeguards in place. In the summer of 2021, the city lifted the work from home mandate, and everyone went back to work. With the violence, people were uncomfortable with travel. Lovlish was part of a committee within the DOE where they surfaced concerns, put out a survey, reached out to members with varying levels of safety and security, and gathered feedback. They collated, recognized actionable feedback, and submitted a summary to the mayor’s office. They developed the buddy program for the AAPI community for anyone traveling in an area that was unsafe. The focus of the program was on AAPI staff, but ultimately everyone was welcome and encouraged to participate. Lovlish finds it important to advocate for the AAPI community as he is originally from India, a South Asian nation. Lovlish grew up in Flushing, Queens, and spent almost 14 years working in DOE. Lovlish has been married to his wife, Monika, the past 4 years ago, and they have a baby girl, less than 2 years old. Last year, their family moved to Texas with the intent to provide a better life for his family & daughter. He already had a house paid for in Katy and his eldest sister lives in Katy as well. They moved with the intentions of providing a better life for his daughter and having more family support. Dreams/Goals – As a business owner, Lovlish wishes to provide more for his family. He seeks to be financially stable, but also prospering. He grew up in a humble home but wants to provide more for his daughter if possible. At DOE he found that he was always in the hands of someone else calling the shots. He has a wealth of knowledge and skills, but there is so much red tape and administrative void to go through. By the time it reached the chancellor’s cabinet, the intent would always get transformed. A Rainbow Restoration business will allow Lovlish the opportunity to give back to the community. His parents are temple goers and that philosophy of giving back has been instilled on him.
